Brooklyn School Community Celebrates Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

Brooklyn staff, families, and community members joined together to celebrate the powerful legacy of a civil rights pioneer during the 2025 Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Friday, November 14th. The annual event is celebrated by communities across the country and commemorates the bravery of Ruby Bridges, an African American student who integrated William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans on November 14, 1960.

Approximately twenty-five participants including staff members, students, parents, and community members joined the procession which began at the Brooklyn Early Childhood Center and worked its way down Hurricane Alley, before turning south on Roadoan Road and heading onto Biddulph Road, finishing at the Brooklyn City Schools campus. Several students led the procession by holding an official banner with many participants wearing shirts emblazoned with the event name and logo.

By walking to school in unity, Brooklyn staff, families, and community members reinforced the importance of equality, justice, and education for all children, while promoting safe, healthy, and active school transportation. Thank you to all participants for celebrating the life and legacy of Ruby Bridges and her inspiring example for future generations.
