Training

OSTS has two types of training available for substitute teachers. Depending on your background, you may be asked to complete both PSW and SubSkills training. These resources are designed to help you feel prepared and confident in the classroom, with guides, videos, and step-by-step instructions to support your success as a substitute teacher.

PSW Training -

All subs must complete a series of PublicSchoolWorks (PSW) online courses in topics mandated/suggested for educational employees by ODE/ODH/OSHA.

SubSkills Training -

The SubSkills Course is an online training program covering curriculum, instructional techniques, classroom management, health and safety, legal concerns, and professionalism.

Substitute teachers are required to complete the SubSkills training course if they meet any of the following:

  • Have no education background

  • Have not student taught

  • Have been out of the classroom for more than five (5) years

At the end of the course, substitutes must complete an assessment and send the certificate to our office as proof of completion. Participants will have year-long access to the course and materials for use in the classroom.

When registering, please select Ohio Substitute Teacher Services as your school district. The course fee is $39.95, paid directly to STEDI.
